Broadcast Content Gets Time Shifted for Subsequent Mobile Device Playback

The phenomenal success of the iPhone cannot be overstated. While it has many industry leading capabilities, it has single-handedly changed the landscape of mobile video attractiveness – first for music videos, YouTube clips, movie previews and other short form content – and now for long form content including popular TV series episodes and even full length movies. The opportunity now exists for broadcast content to be extended to mobile devices – enabling subscribers who are unable to see an entire episode from their home, and want to pick up where they left off on a mobile device; or where they would like to pre-schedule content recording for a subsequent viewing experience perhaps while traveling or commuting.

RipCode’s TransAct platform enables broadcast content to be transcoded from MPEG-2 TS to an H.264 format appropriate for mobile device consumption. And with the TransAct Monetizer, content can have mobile-relevant ads dynamically inserted – enabling expanded monetization opportunities.
