Cost-Effective IPTV Service Delivery

The worldwide IPTV market is growing at a rapid pace, and telcos and cable operators that don’t quickly get on board will soon be left behind. While IPTV remains in trial status here in the US, it is being aggressively deployed in Europe and Asia. But for many deployments, quality of experience and total cost remain as significant barriers.

RipCode’s TransAct Platform is enabling one customer to aggregating over 220 broadcast feeds, transcode them from several MPEG-2 TS variants to H.264, and then deliver the channels to subscribers through existing set top boxes. TransAct was attractive not only because of it’s outstanding transcode quality, but also because it met the customer’s cost per channel and operating expense requirements. Further, the customer is now planning to expand its IPTV service beyond broadcast and into video on demand – made possible by RipCode’s ability to support on demand and real time transcoding from a unified platform architecture – ultimately enabling rich media to be delivered across the full three screen domain - TV, PC, and mobile.
